I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.
17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!
Psalms 139:14-17
Do you know the true value of your life?
Before you answer, pause.
Because if you're like most people, you've probably measured your worth by how much you've achieved, how much you’ve earned, or what you’ve acquired. That’s the value system of the world - material, outward, temporary.
But God sees differently.
He measures your life not by what you have, but by who you are, by the eternal worth of your soul.
Jesus put it plainly:
“What profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”
Matthew 16:26
This verse came alive to me through a painful but unforgettable experience. One I’ve never shared publicly until now, because it hurts every time I recall it. But I believe this story will help you see your true worth through God's eyes. Nothing I know captures the essence of this post (or the verse quoted above) like this story.
A Soul, Lost and Found… Then Lost Again
Years ago, I began praying intensely for a man I had known since childhood. He was known by many in our neighborhood - not for anything noble, but for being the town drunk, an object of ridicule. He often fell into gutters, sometimes dragged home and flogged by boys young enough to be his sons. He lived alone in his late father's house; his wife and child had left. He was the picture of hopelessness.
Yet, I believed God could redeem him.
So I fasted and prayed for three months straight, crying out to God for his soul. I believed his transformation could be a signpost pointing others to Christ. And that’s exactly what happened.
The day came when the Holy Spirit led me to him, and I invited him to church. To my joy, he surrendered his life to Christ. And just like that, everything changed.
He stopped drinking.
He was rehired at the same job that once fired him.
His wife returned, bringing back their son.
And best of all - he became a magnet for others who saw his radical change and wanted the same Jesus he found.
It was a beautiful, divine turnaround.
But then, a few months later, I saw him again - drunk.
My heart broke. The man who had once radiated hope had slipped back into darkness. His wife left again. He lost his job, his peace, his progress.
As I spoke with him through tears, I listened closely to his words and realized something deep: he had been talked out of his new life. Discouraging voices had gotten to him - mockers, skeptics, and those used by the enemy to speak death over what God was restoring. And sadly, he believed them. He was a baby Christian, just finding his footing. It was easy for the devil to take advantage of him through the voices of people he’d long known and associated with.
“They Stole a Soul From Me…”
Not long after, tragic events began to unfold in the lives of those who had discouraged him. Robberies that led to loss of business. Fire outbreak that consumed entire home and possessions. Losses upon losses.
They were also people I knew and I didn’t know what they had done at the time. I went to sympathize with some of them, and as I walked away, I heard God clearly say:
“This has something to do with you.”
What?! That statement startled me. How would God say I had something to do with a series of misfortunes, knowing I would never wish people evil, but good - that was what we are called to as Christians. So, I began to tell God this and to seek clarification on what had actually happened. And then He spoke:
“They stole a soul from Me, and I took everything they have.”
It shook me. But it made sense.
Because when you touch a soul - especially one God is rescuing - you touch what’s most precious to Him.
The Bible says:
“If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” —1 Corinthians 3:17And again:
“If anyone causes one of these little ones - those who believe in Me - to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea.” —Matthew 18:6
You Are That Valuable
Let this sink in: Your soul is God’s treasure.
Heaven values your life more than anything this world can offer.
You may not have money in the bank. You may feel lost in your career, stuck in pain, or unsure of what tomorrow holds.
But if God would fight for a soul like that man’s…
If God would avenge a life being stolen back into darkness…
Then how much more is He fighting for you right now?
You are more than your past.
More than your bank account.
More than your mistakes.
More than your fears.
You are a soul God paid for with blood. That of His precious, only begotten Son, for that matter.
You are His temple.
You are His ambassador.
You are His masterpiece.
The scriptures say the gain of the whole world is incomparable to a single soul - your soul! No wonder scriptures also say there is joy in heaven over one soul that finds salvation.
In summation: if God values your soul to be more than the whole world, then you have it within you to influence your world - to make significant impact - to create substantial change and transform generations.
Live From That Truth Today
As you begin your week, don’t let your circumstances dictate your confidence.
Instead, walk tall.
Pray boldly.
Dream wildly.
Take action - even if it’s small - toward the purpose God has placed within you.
Your soul has been weighed by heaven and found worth the life of the Son. So no matter what the world says, live from the place of your true value.
God believes in you. So should you.
Go and Dominate!
