A Simple Thought on Trust
I’ve always wondered why the bible in Hebrews 11:6 says it is impossible to please God without faith. Why is faith so important?
I know it takes faith to be able to take certain steps in fulfilling God’s purpose on earth. To be able to trust Him when we don’t know what we are doing. But that still did not satisfy my thirst.
Then I stumbled on something, and it strikes so hard I want to share it with you.
You can’t please God while disobeying Him. Nobody, not even children, like to be disobeyed. In fact, the bible says obedience is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams (1 Samuel 15:22).
And it dawned on me that not trusting God - not acting with faith - is an act of disobedience; a rebellious, disrespecting attitude. How?
Because faith is actually not an advice or instruction. It is a command!
See:
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
Faith - trusting God enough to take the steps He required of us; to believe the things He says when it seems the opposite is true - is not easy. It’s not simple either.
But it’s a must. It’s the only way to obey God. And to please Him.
I believe these three steps can help.
Study the acts of God in the bible. If you believe the bible to be a true account of events, then you will find abundant evidences of people who walked with God by faith and how He proved Himself faithful on their behalf. You will also understand how the enemy plots to make you fail by making you fear.
Pray to God to increase your faith and for grace to believe, trust and obey.
Remember my post on the Spirit of Performance? Ask the Holy Spirit to help you. Jesus describes Him as the Spirit of truth, our Helper and Comforter.
Bonus Point: Make up your mind to trust God, no matter what. You ask, “What if it fails?” I answer: Make up your mind to love Him enough to take whatever He brings your way, knowing that in the end, He will never leave you nor forsake you. Enough to say: “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.”
That is the way go, to make an impact that will transcend your generation.
Peace!
